THE POSITION

Carpenters

Iron Maple has offices in Dartmouth, NS and Sussex, NB.

We are looking for Carpenters in Nova Scotia.  The ideal candidate will want to work in a team environment with an opportunity to learn and grow. Your job will entail working in diverse settings and locations typically on Institutional, Commercial, Multi-Unit Residential, and Industrial building projects.

The goal is to contribute to the construction of strong, well-built buildings in and around our communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements.
  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed.
  • Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material according to measurements and for the intended purpose.
  • Build formwork/temporary structures/frame buildings by using raw materials or pre-constructed items.

Qualifications:

  • Be committed to working safely and within the Iron Maple safety program.
  • Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials.
  • Good understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.
  • Proficient in using electrical, manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of concrete formwork and forming systems; wood framing; scaffolding and other construction temporary structures; doors, frames and hardware.
  • Ability to read technical documents and drawings would be an asset.
  • Good understanding of basic math.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Red Seal or registered apprentice would be an asset but is not mandatory.
